Moving on up

In my previous post I titled it as "Well into the "Good Stuff"". Well what I mean by the "Good Stuff" is almost exactly what happened in CSC165 near the end of the course. We have begun to move into the actual proving of correctness of programs and running time complexity. I always have an issue with these logic courses near in the beginning where I lose track of what the end game is like... optimizing and recognizing places for improvement in our programs!

I look forward to learning more about Big O and other Time Complexity material as this is what I found most interesting in CSC165, and now I realize why induction is stressed so heavily in the beginning of the course.

All the best!

Well into the "good stuff"

Well we are now several weeks into the course and its fascinating how much can be taught about one concept.. induction. Assignment 1 was somewhat disappointing for myself as for some reason induction wasn't "clicking" for me yet, and after studying effectively for test 1 things began to seem clearer in terms of coming up with induction proofs (let it be well ordering, complete or math).

Things are beginning to "click in" around this time of the course and after a much much better Test 1 mark I feel more confident in my proving abilities for this course. It's somewhat funny to look back to A1 and think to myself "What was I thinking??", after spending about 2 hours redoing the entire assignment I was able to condense my proofs into just a fraction of what I had before (since I realized what I was doing now!)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello!

This is my first post to my sLOG and I welcome you to read my insights into the course.

Computer science is one of my life passions but to completely honest logic courses are very challenging for me. I am still waiting for that ultimate moment of realization that these proofs are actually quite straight-forward and it's all about connecting the dots using previous knowledge gained over our lives. I read a comment that Danny Heap left on another sLOG that after 2 years of university he began to consistently receive those "eureka" moments and I hope that I will start getting those soon. :P

All in all, with A1 finished it's "go time" to start studying for the midterm this week. I am finding myself redoing all of the proofs covered in class in hopes that this will help me prepare as well as going over some other examples found in other readings and online. Here's hoping all goes well!

Well thanks for reading my first post, I promise my next will include more mathematical symbols and logic, haha.
